Key Stage Test Results 2008 - update week beginning November 17

Readers will be aware that the Department's Head of Profession for Statistics decided to delay publication of provisional KS3 results at the local authority level until there was sufficient volume of data for every local authority in all three subjects (English, Mathematics and Science) to enable publication of a complete set of provisional results on a consistent basis for all local authorities. The Head of Profession also kept open the option of publishing a further SFR in October giving Key Stage 3 national and local authority information. At that point the Head of Profession would review the volumes of data across local authorities along with any further advice from Ofqual and the National Statistician, to inform his decision.

The Head of Profession has now reviewed the position taking into account advice from the National Statistician and Ofqual. While the volumes of data are now satisfactory, the Head of Profession has decided to not publish a further SFR until the outcomes of the review process on levels of attainment are clearer. A further statement will be issued on this website in December.

Amendments to 'Permanent and Fixed Period Exclusions from Schools in England 2006/07'

The Department's statisticians have identified a problem with the age distributions in tables 4a and 4b of SFR 14/2008 'Permanent and fixed term exclusions from schools and exclusion appeals in England, 2006/07', published on 24 June 2008. The total number of exclusions shown in these tables are not affected, neither are other tables in the SFR. The SFR PDF file and the Excel version of the affected tables have been temporarily removed and, subject to further analysis and quality assurance, will be replaced on Thursday 27 November. All other tables remain available in Excel format.
